WORSHIP WITH US

WHO IS WELCOME?

The short answer is, anyone.

The long answer is ABSOLUTELY anyone!

At Community Presbyterian Church we invite ALL to experience Jesus Christ. We don't care who you are, where you are from, who you love, what political beliefs you hold, or what your past looked like. We welcome all to gather as the people of God, no if's and's or but's.

Be prepared to meet people from all walks of life, all ages, all political affiliations, and any other categories the world may try to divide us into. Like we just said, it doesn't matter who you are; all are welcome to gather at the Lord's table!

And you don't even need to physically attend our church each Sunday to be a part of our faith community. We broadcast our services live every Sunday at 10:00 AM MST, which are then archived for anyone to watch.

WILL I NEED TO INTRODUCE MYSELF IN WORSHIP?

No, we don't make visitors stand up and introduce themselves, but don't be surprised if others worshipers in our congregation stop by to introduce themselves or simply say 'hello'. We strive to make ourselves welcoming and gracious to all who come through our doors, regardless of whether you have been coming for 30 years or this is your first time.

DIRECTIONS

Take north Main Street in Cedar City and turn east onto Nichols Canyon Road; our church is on the corner at the intersection with Wedgewood Lane. The nearest highway exit is Exit 62 on I-15.

WHAT TO WEAR

Come as you are! Our dress code ranges from a shirt and tie to jeans and a t-shirt.

WHEN YOU ARRIVE

You may park in the church parking lot or along either Nichols Canyon Road or Wedgewood Lane (our parking lot features many ADA spaces and a ramp). You may enter on either side of our building. We converted our narthex into what we call the "Welcome Center" where we offer refreshments and information about our church. If you simply wish to experience the presence of the Lord, you may sit in the sanctuary prior to the service. Ushers are available to help answer any questions or address any concerns you may have.

ACCESSIBILITY

Our sermons are broadcast live on YouTube every Sunday for those who are not able to attend in person. We feature ADA compliant parking and restrooms for our guests. In addition to this, we have hearing aids for those hard of hearing and large print programs for those who are not fully sighted. If you need assistance with anything, ask one of our ushers.

WORSHIP

Our weekly worship is at 10:00 am on Sunday. Childcare is provided from 9:30 am to 11:30 am on Sunday mornings.

COMMUNION

Communion is served the first and third Sundays by intinction (dipping the bread into the grape juice). Communion is open to all who wish to partake of it, regardless of membership status/baptism within the church.

BIBLE VERSION

The version we have in our pews is the NRSV (New Revised Standard Version) However, we welcome ALL translations.

OFFERINGS

Donations and offerings are very much appreciated, however they are not mandatory so feel free to give as much or as little as you would like. We do not pass the plate during worship; our collection plates are located in the back of the sanctuary, or you can give online.

Checks can be made payable to Community Presbyterian Church and mailed to 2279 N Wedgewood Ln, Cedar City, UT 84721.

If you would like to give regularly, we HIGHLY encourage you to pledge. We build our budget each year based on the number of pledges we receive, and pledging helps us to be more effective at serving the congregation and continuing the work God has put in front of us. If you have any questions, please reach out to a member of Session.

REFRESHMENTS & FELLOWSHIP

Refreshments are served before and after the service. Please take the time to enjoy coffee and finger foods while you talk with fellow worshipers :)

CHILDREN AT OUR SERVICE

Childcare is available for young children at our 10:00 am service.  Depending on their ages and your desires you may want to leave children younger than five in the nursery, which is staffed by professional childcare providers.  Ask one of our greeters to lead you to the nursery.

You may also use the Welcome Center as a "Cry Room".  You can see and hear the worship service from the Welcome Center, but your child cannot be heard.

We send our kids off to Sunday School at 10:00 after a special children's message in our service.  Older children (K-5th Grade) are welcome to leave for Sunday School or you may choose to keep them with you for the rest of the service. Sunday School takes a summer break during June, July and August. Activity bags/clipboards are available for all children - just ask one of the ushers.

MEMBERSHIP

Membership is not required for participation in most aspects of church life here at Community Presbyterian Church (We have longtime worshipers at our church who aren't on-the-books members!). However, per PC(USA) guidelines some roles within the church can only be held by those who are recorded members of the church (such as Session.)

If you do wish to become a member, please feel free to speak to the Pastor/Session. There are 3 pathways to membership:

- Letter of Transfer from your previous church

- Public Affirmation of Faith

- Baptism in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. (If you were previously baptized this way, then you do not need to be baptized again.)

LEADERSHIP

Unlike other churches, Presbyterian Churches are led by the Session, not just the Pastor. The session is made up of a group of Elders (which can be men or women), and is responsible for leading the congregation in a democratic fashion. For more information on Presbyterian polity, click here.
